Do you HAVE to wear some sort of jewelry on your wedding day?
I’m a very plain and simple gal….my engagement ring and a watch are all I wear and have worn in my life!! My mom gave me an antique pearl necklace, but to me, it doesn’t look like "me" when I put it on. It’s odd to see necklaces, earrings, bracelets, etc. on me….so….would it be TOO plain to not wear any jewelry on my wedding day?
Thanks!!

so my winter formal is in like 2 weeks, and i still dont know how im doing my hair, and what shoes to wear, and how to do my makeup, and what jewelry to wear. My dress is a knee length, black, boxy, lace dress with a wide neck collar. My hair has long layers(its about5 inches below my shoulders). I have 2 options for necklaces: pearls(real!) and this antique silver rose choker necklace. Usually for makeup i go pretty dramatic, mostly playing up my brown eyes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

No wear what you want. I don’t wear earrings and people were nearly in shock when I said I wasn’t going to wear earrings. I haven’t worn them in so long they look strange on me, so I understand what you mean about it feeling like it looks strange on you. Try the necklace on with the dress – you may change your mind. If you still think it looks weird then don’t wear it. For a bracelet maybe you can find a fancy watch that can double as a bracelet. Or just go without. It really isn’t a big deal.
(You are going to wear your engagement ring right?)

I’ve even seen some where there is a cover over the time part so the whole thing looks bracelet like.
It’s your wedding day, wear what you want.
No. It is YOUR day, no need to be who you aren’t just to please others. Your soon to be husband loves you just as you are! Congrats!!
It’s your wedding day so it’s up to you what you want to wear. But have you tried the necklace on with the dress? If not, you may want to just see how it looks…you never know. In the end, you have to wear what you feel good with, not what someone else thinks you should wear.
Ofcourse not! It’s your day so you can wear or not wear anything you want. I have always thought that less is better.
No! My mom got married in a pretty skirt. You dont have to wear jewlwey but about the engagment ring im not so sure.
I think that jewelry can add a very nice touch if you feel comfortable in it…but simple can sometimes be very elegant. i would think about maybe wearing just a small necklace and definitely some earrings if you have your hair up – but there is no rule that says you MUST wear jewelry on your wedding day. I’ve seen brides go without it and it looked lovely
It is entirely up to you…you could wear other things to dress yourself up a bit.
i have only been to 2 weddings and they only wore necklases!
And a ring at the end! lol
its your wedding day – wear whatever you want or dont want… you have to feel comfortable and feel like yourself…
sometimes no jewellery is best – wont detract from you or your dress…
No you don’t have to at all. What ever you want is what you should wear.
Firstly, congratulations! Secondly, no of course its not mandatory, its your day so you can where what you like. In my opinion if your dress suits you then you don’t need to add "bling", the beauty of the dress will speak for itself. I agree, pearls on a wedding dress are too much, so if you don’t feel comfortable try a very thin silver chain. You could get a small charm on it, perhaps something personal? Or don’t wear a neclace and just wear simple earings. On or the other. If it were me i would wear simple pearl stud earings OR equally simple long earings. Just something for a little added sparkle.
I follow an Islamic marriage thing. My wife would be covered in jewels and stuff. Only for show. Dunno why though. Only elders see that the wife is very respected and stuff. I don’t see a difference.
Shame I’m only 15 and not married yet. Lol.
I guess you have to. To show you’re valued. Y’know, cover yourself with a bit of jewellery so you don’t look plain.
It’s the same as me going to work with just a shirt. Without a tie, it’s just empty space.
If your gown is beaded.. no don’t bother with all the neckalces and such…. just earrings .
If your gown is not beaded… maybe just earrings and a simple neckalce will do.
I’m like you… not a big jewelry person. btw don’t wear your watch ;o)
there is absolutely no rule that says you have to wear jewelery! but it was nice of your mom to give you that necklace and if it would make her really happy you should consider wearing it for her…
No you don’t have to wear any jewelry…it’s your day!! Your mom just wants to give you something old, something new, something barrowed and something blue. Have a wonderful day and have fun!!
You don’t HAVE to do anything on your wedding day, well except get married!
Otherwise it’s all up to you and the one your are getting married to.
Of course not if you want to look dressed up wear a hairpiece or something but no necklace required maybe try to find a halter top dress which would look goregous without any necklace. Congrats!
Don’t have to wear anything you don’t want to wear. Completely up to you.
Be your true self on your wedding day. He is marrying you for you not who your are in an antique necklace.
… however, if the necklace is a family heirloom it might mean a lot more to your mom than just a piece of jewelry. Wear it if it symbolizes something to you both. Sometimes accepting a gesture of love is more important than a look.
If it is just a necklace and your mom just wants to contribute to your outfit for the day, maybe you can find something else she might do. Does she have a favorite flower that you might include in your bouquet? Could she pick your hairstyle? Does she have something else you like that you might use?
Not at all =] You aren’t the bejeweled type, and it’s YOUR wedding, so be yourself!
No it is not a requirement. If you aren’t used to it or comfortable wearing it, then don’t.
you need to be so beautiful and about jewelry wear what goes with your dress and your body but if the dress do the job you don t have to wear jewelry BUTyou should take family opinions
it really depends on the dress – but it is your wedding and you need to like the way you look – and if you’re not into jewelry i wouldn’t start with pearls anyway something more simple – a small charm on fishing line so all you see is the little charm or something like that may be more your style
It’s OK! Lots of the supermodels who model bridal gowns aren’t wearing any, either, and they look beautiful! I’d suggest though that you and your bridesmaids (if you have them) unify as a group to not wear any jewelry. That way, some of them won’t look more "adorned" than you and it will be a nice coordinated look.
wear whatever you want its your wedding day do you really want to feel awkward and not yourself i know i wouldnt
Many people don’t wear neclaces, because the dresses are already dressy enough. But I hear you about being plain. Let me just put this idea in your head. Men across the country wouldn’t be caught dead wearing ties, tuxedo’s, flowers on their lapels, dress shoes, cuff links or any of the other things that basically are forced upon them by the women they love. They do it, because they do want their future spouse to know how important that day is to them.
If men, who really, REALLY don’t wear anything special or fancy can do it, don’t you think maybe you should consider something simple and pretty? I’ve seen single strand neclaces with a pearl at the bottom of them and single pearl earrings which would suit a plain gal just fine. And they don’t cost much either!
It’s your wedding.
It’s all about you, and what you want.
Do it your way. Your choice.
No, you dont HAVE to!
But if mommy knows that you dont like much jewelry and still gave you the necklace then it must be special to her that you wear it!
I would wear it for her.
It is completely your choice! If you don’t want to wear any kind of jewelry, go ahead with it! But if you can do with a simple earring like http://www.b2cjewels.com/productdetails.aspx?itemid=1824&from=er , then I would say go with it!
